>> totally done. my 3-year-old son says i'm tired of christmas, mommy. >> one of our i-reporters sent in pictures from his flight in columbus, ohio. he took them wait iing for the plane to take off. let me see the pictures. oh, there's not a whole lot to see. that? i don't want to take off in that. you can see crews trying to clear the snow from the runway. people waited patiently. he eventually made it to laguardia. new york is expected to get hammered. none of the city's schools are going to be open. there's a live look for you. boston announced it's having a snow day. in d.c., it's the third straight day schools and government offices will be closed. i guess it means the president's daughters don't have to ride to school in a motorcade. they are expecting another ten inches of snow.

ten inches! let me spell it out. here is the deal. i can't remember the last time there was a blizzard warning for new york, long island, maryland. they stand for jersey, philly, delaware, too. you are saying it's a big deal. >> it's a good way to say it. we had the storm over the weekend. it was a huge snow maker. it's a windy day. here is the low. it's off the coast of virginia now. it's starting to bomb out. intensify and blossom. it's going to grab the low, merge it together, deepen and turn it into a huge snow maker and wind maker. blizzard warnings for parts of west virginia, maryland, delaware, new york. winds gusting to over 40 miles per hour. lots of snow. i'll pount that out in a couple minutes. >> can you show me that, again. the red.

kerrigan's father was a homicide. he died of an alleged altercation with his son mark last month. he pleaded not guilty to assault and battery charges. the kerrigan family says the findings are inaccurate. tru tv talked to prime news about this. >> one thing that i think the government will take into consideration is it's being reported he's suffering from -- he's an african-american vet suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder. he is seeing psychiatrist. he has a lengthy criminal record from 1991. things like drunken driving. violating a restraining order. when you take that picture into consideration and this, another violent altercation, it's something any prosecutor is

going to take into consideration in determining whether to file additional charges. >> nancy kerrigan won two olympic medals in the '90s. she escaped an attack before the 1994 winter games. hondas are being recalled. this is with the air bags. >> we have been talking about toyota so much, now honda expanding an earlier recall. 400,000 more cars affected. in a crash, your air bag is supposed to save you. in this case, it can burst and send metal fragments flying. they know of 12 incidents, one person died. the civic, the accord, odyssey and acura's are included. check cnn.com/robin, looking out

right now, there's no immediate reports of damage. we have a viewer on the phone out of illinois. she's rafer weigel's mom. she gave rafer a message saying hey, we have an earthquake. let's get her on the phone. how are you? >> caller: i'm well. i'm happy to be in one piece. >> i'm glad you are okay. tell me how you were awakened this morning from the cat who sensed something was coming. >> caller: my pets did. they woke me up about 4:00 central time. my cat was acting strangly and my dog. around 4:00, i heard this loud rumble and it felt as though something fell on the roof. my dog jumped. the cat was quiet for a moment. she's going to start making noise, again. i apologize. >> she's upset about the

earthquake. did you feel the house rumble a bit? >> caller: i did. it felt like something fell on the roof. it was a very loud rumble, sort of like thunder and lasted three seconds. >> it seemed like an eternity for you, though. >> caller: i got up and went outside, discovered a foot and a half of snow. very windy. as bob said, very bad. >> it's unusual to feel an earthquake in illinois. it's not like it happens every year. >> caller: it is unusual. we are on a fault. i think southern illinois, you can expect an earthquake there. this is quite unusual. it was felt, according to local reports in other states, wisconsin, indiana. they said they felt it because of the flat plain of our geography. it goes farther, the feeling.

blizzard warnings. >> sentra park. the reason is because of the visibility. you saw it on the camera. all of a sudden, it fades away. winds of over 30 miles per hour. sustained for three hours. you have that south of new york. that moves in and the visibility is bad. here is the developing low. it's a bomb of a storm off the chesapeake bay. it moves up jersey, then south of new york city. winds off the ocean. a lot of snow and wind. burglar warnings in the pink shaded areas. the red shaded areas, winter storm warnings, watching for the snow to continue. chicago, to the east, getting snow off the lake. light snow in michigan. then it picks up across the middle parts of pennsylvania and virginia. some of the winds not that bad. winds up to 15 to 17 miles per hour in new york. 18 in philadelphia.

ten to 18. 11-mile-per-hour winds in washington. the winds are not there, yet. give it time. once it deepens with the low pressure, that's when you get that. total six to 1 for the day. snow is coming down quickly now. to the north, the most snow. ten to 20 in baltimore. long island, seven to 14. there's the capital. >> they just recovered -- actually, they haven't recovered from the last one. >> rafer's mom, glad she's okay. i'm glad it was rafer's mom. president obama is getting to spend quality time with his children. michelle told larry king. >> he can have dinner. he can read to the kids at

more than 40 lawsuits already for the run away problem. toyota is asking they be thrown out. experts say toyota could be on the hook for more than $2 billion in legal settlements. this is a big problem. it's actually one of the reasons why car companies try to avoid recalls. you are admitting there is something wrong and could be held liable. there's mounting evidence the run away car problem is not resolved. it goes beyond gas pedals and floor mats. there are been a lot of questions about the computer system. they are confident they have solved the main problem. if you want to get away, you have to commit. you have to be able to make a plan. you have to book by tomorrow. southwest is running -- >> tomorrow? >> yeah. >> the flights don't start until

david paterson insists he will run for re-election this fall. despite rumors of illegal drug use and woman uzing. now he called the rumors an orchestrated effort to drive him out of office. >> i have never seen a situation such as sunday night where three separate sources contact media outlets simultaneously right at the beginning of the super bowl to say that the governor was resigning. i have never seen anything like that. it seems to be somewhat orchestrated. it is really a shame that this much energy has to be devoted to false allegations, unsubstantiated rumors, and some cases straight-out lies. >> these rumors are linked to an article that "the new york times" is said to be working on. paterson believe it is rumors started when he put together his re-election campaign. he became governor in 2008 when eliot spitzer resigned. one of tiger woods 'alleged

we have not heard back yet. >> nothing. all right, thank you. there is still a threat of mudslides in california. more than 500 homes were under evacuation orders yesterday. it was raining in la canada/flintridge area that was hit with mud slides over the weekend and according to the sheriff's department, more than half of the people complied with the evacuation orders. here comes ellen. she finally was a judge on "american idol" and she talked about being qualified to be a judge saying she knows how to feel to stand there on stage and try to please people. ellen also had fun with the contestants in the elimination process. >> danny, step forward. tory, step forward. maddie, step back. danny, step to your left a little bit. claire, step forward and step back real quick. you're all going through.

it was all around the d.c. area that you're watching. in parts of northern virginia, parts of west virginia, delaware, new jersey, long island all under blizzard warning. let me show you what we're talking about. your area of low pressure is south of jersey, the pink-shaded areas, blizzard warnings. i put in the totals that i think will happen between washington, baltimore and philadelphia, somewhere between 10 to 20 inches of snow total and 10 to 16 for philly, and 6 to 10 for the lower hudson valley and 6 to 10 for boston through rhode island in towards connecticut and you're looking at 7 to 14 for long island itself. the reason why, mixing in with a little sleet. also the winds are beginning to pick up 15 to 20 mile per hour sustained winds, but the winds really howl later this afternoon through the overnight tonight. so we're just at the beginning stages of the storm. as it comes to the south. look at the radar picture out of new york. laguardia, jfk. new york city still reporting

light snow and the bright banding, that's sleet and snow, buzz your accumulations down just a bit and still almost a foot of snow for long island. it's light snow and light rain mixed. everybody here will be snow by mid to late morning and right by the delaware valley into the lower hudson valley. 10 to 20 inches of snow is a possibility right now. that's what we're looking at. the light snow still squeezing out of tennessee, kentucky getting in toward north carolina and flurries around atlanta and the snow coming in through michigan and nice stream coming through northern indiana. right around i'd say northern indiana through central indiana and out west it's rain pulling away from l.a. and heavier downpour stretching in to arizona. blizzard warning until 6:00 a.m. tomorrow morning and new york right now, basically white out conditions for the manhattan area. >> that really is a live shot of

well, that's what haitian officials are saying, but they also say that bodies are still being recovered every day, so that number could go even higher. a leading republican senator wants president obama to fire his top counterterrorism adviser. john brennan needs to go. it is the latest fallout over the attempted attack by the so-called underwear bomber. republicans are playing politics. they criticize the administration's handling of that suspect. those are a few of the day's top stories. maybe you have longer to watch because you can't get outside because of snow. i'm robin meade. good morning, sunshine. we start with this story, this just in this morning. a strong earthquake woke up many people in the chicago area. the u.s. geological survey says the 4.3 magnitude quake was centered in downtown chicago and at least one person in northern illinois reported minor damage in his house. in new york it is the winter storm. it's all along the eastern

seaboard and the worst of that storm has not even arrived yet. this is a live look. it's difficult to see, i guess because of what's on the lens. the schools are closed, so is the u.n. here is new york and i'm surprised at how many cars i'm still seeing on the road. i recognize that's not a whole lot of cars when you think about it and they seem to be big rigs and busses. the storm hit the midwest yesterday in iowa. 17 inches of snow. this comes just days after another storm set records in d.c. in fact, reuters reports that almost 5,000 people in that area are still without power. an i-reporter for columbus, ohio, sent photos of how the nasty weather is affecting that region. he took te photos waiting for his ple can see the crews were just trying to clear the snow from the runways. for the most part people are going to be patient and he eventually did make it into new york. some are calling it snow

snowmageddon. meteorologist bob van dillen will tell us how bad it will get. i can't even list all of the cities or states under blizzard warning. new york, maryland, baltimore, washington, d.c., philly, delaware, you name t along the i-95 corridor. so it's a big story, more upcoming. some toyota dealerships are opening around the clock right now trying to make repairs on recalled cars. one store in south florida is even keeping the sales operation running 24/7. the owner says the fix for the brake problem takes about two hours. so he's offering free meals to people who have to wait. >> i think as a toyota dealer i have a commitment to my customers and i promise that i'm selling you the world's number one quality automobile and gosh, darn, we have a few concerns right now that we're taking care of. >> coming up in a few minutes, here come the lawyers. toyota is facing a sudden acceleration of lawsuits,

apparently. a 25-year-old man checked into a sleep clinic and died the next morning. brandon harris went to the emory sleep center in atlanta for a study on sleep apnea. the coroner says that he died of sudden cardiac arrest. his uncle was on hln's "prime news" last night and our mike galanos asked him about a video that was shown here that is in distress. >> there was basically no conversation with the people from emory. at one point i made a comment saying why is it that someone's coming in? he's in distress and it is very obvious to me that from the very beginning of viewing the tape that he's in distress, why isn't someone coming in to his aid, his rescue? and the guy at that point says to me, oh, he's waving to someone. i said you wave in the opposite direction of yourself, you don't wave in this direction to greet someone which is saying to me

that it was just -- it's unconscionable to me all of what i witnessed in that video. >> hln received this statement from emory health care. at all times during the sleep study, mr. harris was monitored and the providers appropriately attended to him. according to the post-mortem examination, mr. harris died because of sudden cardiac death, meaning that his heart stopped suddenly and without warning. get the latest on any developments in that story with "prime news with mike galanos" at 5:00 eastern on hln. president obama is trying to spend some quality time with his kids. here's what michelle obama told larry king. >> he can have dinner and read to the kids at night and tuck them into bed. we have much more quality time. we can't go out necessarily, but he still goes to parent/teacher conferences. >> he goes to the school? >> oh, absolutely. he goes to every performance and play.

5 to 10 minutes ago and plenty of snow coming down. the grand total today about 6 to 12 from washington, up to baltimore and 10 to 20 between baltimore in toward philadelphia, philly, a little bit less looking at a foot or so, new york city metro, looking at a foot to 16 inches. that's what it looked like a couple of minutes ago. let me bring you up to speed with the blizzard warnings. had is the snowfall totals. a little less around long island and boston. not much of a snowfall maker for new england and winds are picking up to near 20 miles per hour. new york, zero in toward the airports and you're covered up with all snow around jfk and all snow and sleet mixing in around long island and heavy snow in northern jersey and a break around philadelphia right now through central jersey and that will pick up and fill back on in. snow is out there and freezing with light freezing rain and later today, the all snow, 10 to 20 inches and that's the bull's-eye. that's right around pennsylvania, maryland, parts of jersey and even in toward new

problem may go beyond just taking out your floor matters on getting your car fixed. toyota says it's confident it has solved the primary causes of the acceleration problem, but it seems like this is not over yet and it's going to be come up with the hearings and they're all snowed in in washington, so i guess it will be rescheduled. here's what you're saying about the toyota story. sandy says it's interesting, so many folks seem to forget what a fantastic track record toyota's had until now. it's a hiccup. an unfortunate one, but it's just a hiccup. that's one opinion. bill writes the recalls may be a blessing in disguise. this will definitely affect the u.s. auto industry and i would bet in a positive way. they're weighing in on our facebook page and that's on that story or any of our stories. if you're compete for example a job it's still very difficult. i'm not saying the sun is suddenly shining here, but things are getting a little bit better and that's good news in a bad economy if you believe the

nightmare for travelers and hundreds of flights have been canceled and many roads are closing. seismologists are downgrading a quake that woke up many people in the chicago area this morning. the u.s. geological survey said a 3.8 magnitude quake was centered 50 miles from downtown chicago. earlier they thought it was a 4.3. now, the space shuttle "endeavour" dock would the international space station overnight and the "endeavour" is delivering an italian module and a future control room for the station's robotics. nasa says the station will be 90% complete when those two components are installed. the "endeavour" mission will include three spacewalks. good morning. how could it only be wednesday, i know, it's a tough day. especially when you're stuck at home in the snow. morning, sunshine, i'm robin meade. in new york, the worst thof storm hasn't arrived yet but they're bracing for it. the schools are closed and so is the united nations. 17 inches of snow.
